Izumi Tokita
About the Artist:
I have a son and a daughter. Instead of crying out, my son desperately tried to open his drooping eyes wide. He was trying to see his father’s face one last time. And then, quietly, the light of his life faded away. What saved me at the lowest point of my life was color—a language that needs no words. As I faced countless paintings with brush in hand, a flash of light shot behind my eyelids. As if driven by something, I switched from pen to brush. It felt as though I was carrying on what my son had wanted to accomplish in this world.
Two years later, I established Studio Sense. Now, while raising a daughter who looks just like my son, I continue creating works brimming with “life.” Works that nurture the soul, just as painting saved me.
