About the Artist Izumi Tokita
I have a son and a daughter. Instead of crying out, my son desperately tried to open his drooping eyes wide. He was trying to see his father’s face one last time. And quietly, the light of his life faded away. What saved me at the lowest point of my life was color, a language that needs no words. As I picked up the brush and faced countless paintings, a flash of light shot behind my eyelids. As if driven by something, I switched from pen to brush. It felt as though I was carrying on what my son had wanted to accomplish in this world.
Two years later, I founded Studio Sense. Now, raising a daughter who looks just like my son, I continue creating works brimming with “life.” Works that nourish the soul, just as painting saved me.
